A Message From Our Founder

Saturday 20/06/2020

When I set up PestFix 11 years ago, never in my wildest dreams did I think we would end up being discussed in the House of Commons – but that is exactly what happened to us earlier this week.

Regrettably, some of the claims made about PestFix in Parliament by a couple of MPs, and subsequently spread on social media, were factually incorrect, which is why I have decided to write this blog to set the record straight.

It’s no secret that PestFix was chosen by the Government earlier this year as one of a number of companies both large and small to supply much-needed and life-saving PPE to the NHS while the UK fights COVID-19.

As the owner of a British, family-owned SME who has personally used and cherished the NHS throughout my life I’m incredibly proud that we were chosen, and am pleased to say that we are well on track to complete the order to schedule, having already delivered tens of millions of items of PPE to the NHS in the country’s hour of need.

Unfortunately some – including the two MPs – have questioned why a “pest control company…with no experience in supplying PPE” was given such a large a Government contract to supply PPE to the NHS.

The truth is that PestFix is not a “pest control company”. We are in fact a public health supply business that has been procuring and supplying PPE – among other items for use in pest control – for more than a decade, to a range of sectors, including many NHS Foundation Trusts.

As such, PestFix’s has a unique ability and the contacts to secure at short notice production at specialised medical PPE manufacturing plants around the globe and provide these vital items at a time when the entire world was chasing diminishing supplies.

For the past three months our small, dedicated global team, spanning three continents, has worked non-stop in an ongoing and herculean logistics operation to support the efforts of getting PPE to frontline NHS staff.

This has often involved the PestFix team spending days continuously at offices and factories, sometimes sleeping on floors, to ensure production deals are negotiated and secured in favour of our beloved NHS over other competitive nations, all of whom are vying for the same limited production availability.

Our small team’s relentless and ongoing dedication to the task has been a credit – and the same goes for all of those companies who have been involved in this massive effort.

PestFix, and other SMEs engaged in the Government effort to procure and supply PPE for the NHS, are akin to the Dunkirk Little Ships of 1940 used to lift British Troops off the beaches of Northern France during World War 2.

These small, nimble craft with shallow drafts were able to assist the war effort at a time when the British Navy’s capital ships were unable to get close enough to the beaches to rescue their brave soldiers.

Now, with COVID-19 threatening the country, as opposed to war, PestFix is one of countless SMEs that have been agile and dynamic enough to adapt and answer the Government’s “call to arms” to repurpose and aid the needs of the NHS and wider nation.

Despite this PestFix has faced some criticism and sneering from those who question our intentions and ability to pull off such a mammoth task.

Let me be clear: PestFix has no designs on replacing the NHS’s capital players in the supply chain. When the time comes, and normal supply routes are re-established, we will bow out and continue about our normal business.

In the meantime, we are immensely proud of what we have been able to achieve with so little, and in such a short space of time.

We have already provided tens of millions of items of PPE to support the NHS frontline workers with daily deliveries.

PestFix will continue to work tirelessly until the order is complete and would again stand up without hesitation to support the NHS in the ongoing battle against COVID-19 should our services ever be needed.
