The C-Cap chimney cowl helps minimise heat loss from disused chimney flues. Provides 100% protection against rain, hail, snow, nesting birds, leaves etc. Fits round chimney pots up to 280mm external diameter. Large C-Caps fit chimney pots up to 330mm external diameter. C-Cap is 50mm high and manufactured from tough Styrosun

Installation

1. Check that the pot is in sound condition and not cracked. Any cracked pots should be replaced or strapped prior to installing C-Cap

Remove the spring wires.,clamp and screws.

If the optional insect screen (supplied on standard unit c-caps only) is to be used, lay this in the C-Cap

Fit the spring wires. One of the central slots is slightly deeper than the other. Fit the first wire into the deeper slot followed by the second wire. Check that both wires are evenly positioned.

Secure the wires firmly in place with the clamp and screws. The screws can be screwed fully home, but do not overtighten.

Insert the ends of two adjacent wires into the pot, pointing away from you.

Tap or push the cap away over the far side of the pot so that the other ends of the wires (nearest you) are located as close as reasonably possible to the near edge of the pot rim. Then pushthese ends of the wires into the pot.

Once these are in, simply tap the C-Cap down on to the pot.

Simple to fit, the C-Cap is secured by 2 sprung wires that push down inside the chimney pot.

No tools required.

Why cap a disused chimney?

The Building Research Establishment (BRE) recommends disused chimneys should be capped off at the top with a ventilated capping.

Where a disused chimney is left uncapped, it is open to the UK weather, which annually can be relied upon to deposit several feet depth of water down the average chimney. This can give rise to damp stains appearing internally and over time it contributes to steady internal deterioration of the fabric of the stack.

Blockage of the chimney by nesting rooks will not stop the rain getting in but it will tend to trap the moisture in the chimney by blocking ventilation and preventing the moisture from drying out.

Not to mention the dreadful unhygienic mess that nesting rooks can cause and the difficulty of removing the nests once established!
