With the updates to the glue board offences bill (more information here), PestFix is following government guidance to withdraw the sale of rodent glue boards to the general public.
Glue boards have an important role in dealing with tricky rodent infestations, so we will continue to sell glue boards to those who have pest control training to ensure their proper use
If you would like to purchase rodent glue boards but do not hold a trade account with us, please call us on 01903 538488.
What are glue boards?
Glue boards or glue traps are a highly effective means of dealing with bait shy or trap shy rats, i.e. clever rats that will not eat rodenticide, nor will they enter a conventional rat trap. Generally accepted as a means of last recourse, glue traps work by trapping the rat on a board that has been loaded with extremely sticky glue strong enough to hold the rodent securely on the board.
Glue traps should be placed every 2-3 metres along rat runs, or across thresholds or points of access into the building, thus forcing the rodent to walk across the glue board
However, as the board only traps the rat and does not kill it, in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act 2006 (UK) the glue boards must be regularly inspected at maximum time intervals of 24 hours and the trapped rodents dispatched humanely.
Another important note is that the glue boards themselves must be secured firmly in place using either staples, glue sticky tape or other mechanical means, to prevent partially trapped rodents from dragging themselves and the trap to a place that cannot be reached by the pest controller.
Trapping pest rodents is an ideal solution where the use of poisons is not possible. This could be due to food / stored product hygiene laws, or the risk of secondary poisoning or when there is a risk of a poisoned rodent dying in an inaccessible building void and causing a bad odour as it decomposes. Trapping also allows the pest controller to accurately monitor the numbers of rodents being removed from the property, rather than guessing with the use of rodenticides
