Silverfish

Silverfish are a grey wingless crawling insect about 12mm long, found in damp areas commonly in kitchens and bathrooms. They have a distinctive three bristled tail and are very quick

Silverfish are primarily active at night but this insect is often spotted during the day when it becomes trapped in sinks and baths as they are unable to climb smooth surfaces.

This species feeds on starchy substances, most often food debris, but they have been known to consume glue or paper. Their eggs are laid in cracks and crevices, and the nymphs grow indefinitely with adults reaching over three years old.

It is important to remove the damp conditions to manage populations of silverfish. You can use a licensed household insecticide spray or powder, or a silverfish lured glue trap
