- Place bait or attractant under the trap to encourage the target species (rats/squirrels/weasels) to enter the tunnel and engage the treadle.
- Hold the trap firmly by placing your thumb in the grip loop at the back of the trap.
- Insert your thumb into the D-ring, pull back the strike bar, and carefully attach the safety catch to hold it in place.
- Check the alignment. The tongue of the strike bar should lodge into the notch at the rear of the treadle plate.
- Position the trap securely inside a suitable tunnel, such as the Fenn Trap Box, ensuring the trap is stable and cannot shift.
- Disengage the safety catch only once the trap is correctly positioned inside the tunnel. The trap is now set and ready for use.
Important: Always use this trap within a legal tunnel setup and check traps regularly in line with UK trapping regulations. As of April 2020, MK4 Fenn Traps are no longer approved for use on stoats in the UK.
