Tackling Pigeons on a Solar Panel Installation

Pigeons nesting around solar panels can create more than just a mess. Fouling and nesting material can increase maintenance requirements and potentially impact the performance of the solar installation.

In this project by Avianova, the company behind MAGNETOŽ, pigeons had been nesting around a solar panel array, with droppings causing corrosion and a reduction in output of approximately 23%.

Using MAGNETO

Two MAGNETO units were installed on top of the solar panel installation.

MAGNETO uses controlled, low-intensity magnetic pulses to temporarily interfere with birds' natural navigation, discouraging them from landing within the protected area.

The result

According to Avianova, pigeons initially attempted to return to the site but quickly moved away from the protected area, and the performance of the solar panel array was restored within days.

The project demonstrates how MAGNETO can be used on solar installations where a silent, discreet bird deterrent is required without creating a visible physical barrier.
