How to Tackle Wasps This Summer – Safe, Effective Wasp Control from PestFix

Thursday 28/08/2025

Summer is peak wasp season

Summer is peak season for wasps. If you’ve noticed more buzzing around your garden, bins, or barbecue, you’re not alone. Warm weather, sweet drinks, and food waste attract wasps in large numbers, especially from June to September. If you're looking to tackle wasps, treat a nest, or find a reliable deterrent, this guide covers everything you need, plus links to trusted, professional-grade wasp control products from PestFix.

What Attracts Wasps?

  • Sweet food & drink

  • Bins & food waste

  • Floral scents & perfumes

  • How to tackle wasps

    1. Identify the problem area

Note where they gather: nest, bins, or roofline.

    2. Protect yourself

Never treat a nest without PPE; even small nests can hold hundreds.

Recommended PPE: PestFix Professional Beekeeper Coveralls, Veil & Gloves

Full-body suit with dual veils reduces sting risk.

    3. Treat the nest

Visible, accessible nests can be treated with foams or aerosols for fast knockdown .Alternatively, if the nest is large, or not visible, you may want to use a powder such as Vulcan or Quartz. These can be applied from a distance, using a Powder Duster with extension poles if necessary.

    4. Exploit sugar feeding

After the nest has been treated, scout wasps will return looking for their food. As there are no longer any grubs to produce this food, they will come looking for ours. Exploit this behaviour by using wasp traps with a sweet lure to keep them away from your food and drink sources.
