Street Lights provide a convenient resting spot where seagulls can perch
Which species can cause problems?
Seagulls (herring Gulls & Black-Backed Gulls)
What are the problems?
- Perching birds can deposit bird droppings on the floor below.
- The safe vantage point combined with potential food sources in shopping centres can encourage the seagulls to nest in the area
- During the nesting season seagulls will become aggressive, swooping down on passing pedestrians and causing safety concerns.
How can I stop the problem?
- Seagull SpikesFor lights with a flat top surface, seagull spikes can be attached to the top of the light to prevent the seagulls from landing.
- Daddi Long Legs
For lights with a rounded top surface, a daddi long legs can be attached to the top of light to prevent the seagulls from landing
