Solar panels are becoming increasingly common on roofs. Pigeons and other pest birds can cause problems by roosting on the edge of the panel and fouling the surface or nesting behind the panel.

What are the problems?

• Perching birds can deposit bird droppings in the gutter, down the building facade and on the floor below.
• Nest materials, food debris and feathers can block the roof’s drainage systems causing leaks and flood.
• Bird droppings and old nests deteriorate into a nutrient-rich substance from which vegetation can grow, blocking gutters and down pipes.
• Lice, ticks, mites and maggots associated with the infestation can find their way inside the building affecting the occupiers.

How can I stop the problem?

• Solar Panel Mesh
  Solar panel mesh can be installed to prevent birds from getting behind the solar panels and making nests. Our specially designed solar panel mesh clips can be used to fix the mesh to the panels without the need for drilling or gluing.
• Bird Spikes
  Bird spikes installed around the edge of the panels will prevent birds from using them as a roosting spot.
• Ultrasonic Deterrents
  Ultrasonic deterrents can prevent birds from congregating in the area and keep them away from the solar panels.

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Use an avian disinfectant such as PX Ornikill or Guanaway to neutralise bird droppings prior to clearing them to avoid contraction of one of 30 known diseases in bird droppings.
